Our Work

Save Our Swale is a community group based in and around Richmond, North Yorkshire, working to test water quality and drive improvements to the river Swale. Our team is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the area and ensuring a sustainable environment for future generations. We take pride in our work and are committed to making a positive impact on the community.

WHAT WE DO

2025 Objectives

  1.  Achieve interim self designation by end March 2025.​​
    • Specifically achieve DBWS by end March 2026

  2. ​To hold Yorkshire Water, OFWAT, The Environment Agency and The Government to account and to publish monthly updates on our progress.
    • To prepare a positioning statement by the end of February 2025 in anticipation of the likely acceptance of significant increases in water bills in April 2025 which includes a strategy for promoting a local non-payment of water bills campaign.
  3. Challenge Yorkshire Water to ensure the local sewage system (Waste Water Treatment Works) is fit for purpose. ​
    • Establish current capacity by end June 2025​

    • Identify future capacity requirements by end Aug 2025

    • Present findings to stakeholders by end September 2025​
